Lucky 7s: Lady Vikings Lacrosse Improves to 7-0
Port Washington defeats Jericho, 18-8, behind seven goals from each Froccaro cousin.
The Schreiber Lady Vikings varsity lacrosse team dominated Jericho in an 18-8 victory on Friday to remain undefeated and improve to 7-0 overall (5-0 Conference III). The Lady Viking offense was once again led by the Froccaro cousins, Alexa and Jackie, who each scored seven goals. Chrissy Commons added two goals and dished out five assists.
"We began a little flat," Alexa said, although the team consistently out-hustled Jericho for loose balls.
Port Washington struck again and again throughout the game, scoring almost at will against a Jericho defense that fought hard, but could not keep the ball away from its own net. Midway through the first half, Commons burst between two Jericho defenders in front of the goal, set herself, and fired right past two other defenders. Those final two defenders, Melissa Curly and Hanna Feibus, desperately tried to knock the ball down — Feibus' stick missing the ball by less than an inch as it flew by her, past the Jericho goalie, and into the net.

Plays like that were common for the remainder of the first and second half for the Lady Vikings. Their intensity only increased as the game went on — they scored three goals in the final two minutes, stopped only by the final buzzer.
Despite the dominating win, coach Raquel Piraino was immediately thinking of next week. "Be prepared for Monday," she told her team. "You have a big week next week. You have New Hyde Park, so be ready. Sunday practice is huge because it's a big conference game the following day."
