Outdoor Fun: It's A Science at Sands Point Preserve
A family and nature program on Aug. 7 at the former Guggenheim Estate, where membership helps support the site's buildings and grounds.

Discover just how much science goes into outdoor fun by attending the next family nature program at Sands Point Preserve on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 10-11 a.m.
Learn by doing during this workshop where families will make a magnetic compass, learn the aerodynamics of flying a Frisbee, formulate the correct surface tension for blowing the best bubbles, and investigate the features needed for the kite you create.
Admission for members is $10 per car, non-members is $20 per car, and includes parking. Payments are received at the Gate House.

Upcoming programs include the White Party: A Benefit for Education Program on Aug. 18 from 7-10 p.m., and Signs of Fall Migration, an adult nature program on Aug. 20, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with ranger Eric Powers.

Also at the Preserve: Suzanne Vega and Duncan Sheik perform a sunset concert on the Great Lawn on Sept. 25 from 5-9 p.m. October brings the Village Day Fall Festival and the second annual Haunted Halloween Mansion with a Masked Gala on October 21. Tiger-Fried Productions will present a site-specific version of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery “And Then There Were None” in Hempstead House in November.

The Sands Point Preserve Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to protect and preserve the 216-acre waterfront grounds and historic mansions and to provide a range of cultural events in Hempstead House and Castle Gould and educational programs for families and schools in the Phil Dejana Learning Center and Outdoor Classroom.
