Port Washington Fire Department to Hold Open House

Take a tour of the facility, try on firefighter gear and learn how to fight fires like a pro this weekend.

Those who stop by the Port Washington Fire Department’s open house this weekend can take a tour of the facility, try on firefighter gear and learn how to fight fires like a pro.

Families are welcome to attend PWFD’s open house, at 65 Harbor Road, on Saturday and Sunday. There will be children services and activities, CPR classes for adults and more.

The open house will be held from of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The firefighters will provide a pancake breakfast and a BBQ lunch.

The PWFD and many other fire departments in New York are opening their doors to the community as part of the fifth annual “RecruitNY” weekend, which hopes to recruit more volunteer firefighters.

Those who attend will learn the requirements and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter.

“Last year, over 500 fire departments across the state participated in RecruitNY and we’re optimistic that turnout will be even better this year,” said Robert McConville, president of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, in a press release.
