Spread holiday cheer: gift cards for families affected by domestic abuse

Port Washington residents can spread holiday cheer through The Safe Center LI’s holiday gift card drive for families affected by domestic violence.

The drive helps make the season brighter for families served by The Safe Center LI.

For those who wish to help, the center is seeking $25 gift cards, which will be donated to its client families who can then shop for holiday gifts for their children. According to the center, it can be “very empowering” for parents to buy gifts for their children.

The center recommends purchasing gift cards from retailers that sell items kids enjoy, including such shops as Target, Marshall’s, Toy’s R Us, Walmart, Kmart and Barnes & Noble. It also recommends not purchasing gift cards that have activation fees.

Those who wish to participate are asked to complete a donation form, and send or deliver gift cards by Dec. 1 to The Safe Center LI, 15 Grumman Road West, Bethpage, NY 11714 Attn: Holiday Drive. Or send a check with “Holiday Drive” on the memo line, and the center will purchase the holiday card. Donors can also contribute to the holiday drive online.
