Vikings Lacrosse Tops Freeport at Home

Boys varsity lacrosse wins 11-5 against Red Devils to pick up third Conference I win.

There were no after effects of the Schreiber varsity lacrosse team's tough non-conference loss to Friends Academy on Monday when it got back on the field against a league opponent on Wednesday.

The Vikings (3-1 Conference I, 6-2 overall) took down the Freeport Red Devils (0-5 Conference I, 0-8 overall) at Schreiber High School, 11-5, in the team's third consecutive Conference I win.

The game was hardhitting and although the Vikings proved to be the better team on this afternoon, the physical prowess and athleticism of the Freeport players tested their strength.

"The team passes nicely and won, but the Vikings need to hit more," said former Schreiber lacrosse player Tommy McDonough, who watched the game from the crowd. "Lacrosse is a physical game."

The Vikings led 7-1 at the half and kept that six-goal lead until the final whistle sounded. Owen Caruso led the Vikings with five goals while Jake Frocarro added four goals and four assists. Brieg Bevilacque and Brendon Henne rounded out the team's scoring with one goal each.

"The quality of play is really improving from game to game," said Richard Burton, a parent who attends as many of the team's games as possible.

He'll have his next shot on Saturday when the Vikings head to Baldwin High School for another Conference I contest scheduled for 1 p.m.
