WNYC to Host "Songs for Marian McPartland with Stacy Sullivan"
Chance to revisit the vast jazz sphere in which the late Port Washington resident Marian McPartland roamed.
When Port Washington's jazz pianist / curator / composer Marian McPartland died last summer, I wrote about it here ("Gifted Musician and Port Resident Marian McPartland Dies").
Despite a long career (b. 1918), productive output and international exposure, it seemed to some that her home town profile was no higher than that of Meadow Carting.
On June 30 at the WNYC's Manhattan Greene Space, vocalist Stacy Sullivan (winner of the 2014 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Female Vocalist | Facebook) will join pianist Jon Weber and bassist Steve Doyle to pay tribute to Marian McPartland. The show will feature McPartland's music as well as that of other jazz and American songbook composers.
Weber is currently the host of Piano Jazz, an NPR show that McPartland hosted for more than 40 years.
The Greene Space is located at 44 Charlton St in Manhattan, at the corner of Varick St. Tickets are $25, including a drink.
