WWII and Korean War Vet From Port Washington Honored for Service

The Town of North Hempstead presented a proclamation to the veteran Friday.

A Port Washington veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War was recently presented a proclamation in his honor from the Town of North Hempstead.

The proclamation honored Richard Coyle for serving in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War.

While serving in the Army, Coyle was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in battle and also received the Bronze Star for heroic conduct during battle.

Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth visited Coyle’s home on Friday to honor him with the proclamation and to kick off Memorial Day Weekend.

Coyle will celebrate his ninetieth birthday on September 8.
