Nearly 30 Arrested As Protests Erupt In Brooklyn
A protest against the death of Walter Wallace Jr. in Boerum Hill ended with smashed windows, fires, and nearly 30 arrests on Tuesday night.
BOERUM HILL, BROOKLYN — Protests in Brooklyn surrounding the death of a Black man in Philadelphia ended with smashed cars, fires, graffiti and nearly 30 arrests on Tuesday, according to police and reports.
The hundreds of protesters marched through Boerum Hill near Atlantic Avenue Tuesday to protest against the death of Walter Wallace Jr., a Black man who was shot by Philadelphia police on Monday.
The Brooklyn protests follow similar demonstrations in Philadelphia in the two nights since the 27-year-old's death.

In Brooklyn, the scene quickly turned chaotic. Protesters lit trash fires on the street, smashed through several windows and, in one instance, drove through a line of cops on bicycles, according to videos.
Police eventually surrounded the protesters on Atlantic Avenue near Boerum Place around 10 p.m. and made 27 arrests and issued five summonses, according to police and the Daily News.

The top charges in the arrests were assault on a police officer, possession of graffiti instruments, obstructing governmental administration, unlawful assembly, disorderly conduct and making graffiti, police said.
Five police officers were injured during the protests, according to police.
The demonstration also spread along Fort Greene Park, Court Street and Adams Street, where protesters spray-painted a Christopher Columbus statue outside Brooklyn Supreme Court.
In all, nine police vehicles and 39 commercial properties were damaged, police said.
