After Bronx Monkey House Closure, Some Animals Will Come to Prospect Park Zoo
In an effort to better group animals in settings more like their natural habitat, the Bronx Zoo's historic Monkey House will close, and some monkeys are slated to come to Prospect Park Zoo.
, along with the Wildlife Conservation Society’s other city zoos, will take in some of the monkeys displaced by the Bronx Zoo’s Monkey House closure, says the New York Times.
The 111-year-old building is slated to close, as the Bronx Zoo continues its efforts to group animals in homes that are as close to their natural setting as possible, says the article.
Steve Feldman, a spokesman for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, told the Times that decisions like that are “for the education of visitors and for the care and welfare of the animals themselves.”

“The animals are still in there now,” Jim Breheny, the director of the Bronx Zoo, told the Times, adding that most of the monkeys will be moved to other areas of the zoo, but some will also be moved to other WCS-run zoos, like the Central Park and Prospect Park Zoos.
A spokesperson for the Prospect Park Zoo said that no details have been finalized on the move yet.

When the monkeys do indeed arrive at Prospect Park, they will be in good company along with the zoo’s own Opus and Winola, Cannoli, BonBon and Napoleon, Pablo and Teodora, and more.
