If you've been wistfully walking past Ample Hills' still-closed storefront dreaming of artisan ice cream, take heart: the shop will open May 17.
Owner Brian Smith originally planned to open April 19, but there were delays in equipment delivery. Once it comes, Smith needs at least a week to make all the ice cream flavors, bringing us to the new date.
But it sounds like it will be worth the wait.
Brooklyn's first made-from-scratch-in-the-shop ice cream parlor will offer a full complement of 24 flavors on opening day. It's the first in Brooklyn, possibly in NYC a process that requires in-store pasteurization. Flavors will include including Salted Crack Caramel, Breakfast Trash, Maple Bacon, the Elvis Impersonator (bacon, peanut butter and bananas, we presume), Stout N' Pretzels, Bubblegum, Cotton Candy, Sunshine on My Chocolate (orange cheesecake ice cream with a milk chocolate swirl) and more.
There will also be five ice cream cakes and vanilla bean, brown sugar ice cream cones made from scratch.
And, for us parents, there's the playspace, complete with not only with toys but also a library of ice-cream themed book. (And for us laptoppers, there's free wifi).
Now all we need to know is what time the doors open.
See you there.
Ample Hills Creamery is located at 623 Vanderbilt Avenue at St. Marks.
