B Trains Shut Down As MTA Investigates At Manhattan Bridge

B train service was canceled because of an MTA investigation on the Manhattan Bridge. There were extensive delays on F, N, Q, R & D lines.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK --- B train service was shut down abruptly during rush hour Tuesday morning as the MTA investigated a broken rail on the Manhattan Bridge, officials said.

The MTA halted B train service in both directions between Coney Island in Brooklyn and Bedford Park Boulevard in the Bronx around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, the agency announced on Twitter.

D train service was shut down in both directions between Broadway Lafayette in Manhattan and 36th Street in Brooklyn, and southbound trains stopped on the F line between West Fourth Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, then stopped, said the MTA.

Some northbound Q trains were rerouted to the R line from DeKalb Avenue to Canal Street, according to the MTA.

The service changes were caused by a broken rail on the Manhattan Bridge, according to an MTA conductor on the N line.

Straphangers took to social media to describe half-hour delays in freezing temperatures.

The MTA warned passengers to expect residual delays on the D, F, Q, N and R lines.
