A Fitting Memorial Day Tribute
Close the stores, all the stores on Memorial Day and remember those who sacrificed their lives.

How did Memorial Day become a "Sale" day?
Do we Americans really need to go shopping to memorialize those who sacrificed their lives so that we could shop? Don't get me wrong. Shopping is the non-sports enthusiast's great American pastime. It fuels our economy. And that's good for our country. But do we really have to shop on that day of days?
Our country is at war right now. Our servicemen and women are in harm's way as you read these words. Yet some retailers think the best way to honor those brave men and women as well as those who have done the same before them but didn't come home alive is to go to a retail store and buy something on sale. Really???

Would it kill us (please pardon the pun) if we couldn't shop one day out of the whole year? Shouldn't we remember why we are able to live and shop in the Land of the Free? It is because it was defended by the Brave. Maybe our patriotism would benefit from having a day when all retail stores were closed. For had it not been for our brave defenders we might not be able to shop at all; at least not in the way we have come to expect as Americans.
If I were a politician I would propose that Memorial Day be a national day of remembrance of all those who have died simply because they were Americans who themselves sacrificed their lives so that you and I can live the American Life. I know that I can't easily do that myself in a mall looking for sales. Close the stores, all the stores, just one day out of the year.

And have a Happy Memorial Day.
