ACORN High Brings Home the Gold!
ACORN's soccer team's first year truly helped to bring the school closer as a community. It has been a great season and most importantly a lot of fun!
ACORN Community High School joined the NYISL (New York Independent Soccer League) in the fall of 2011. Games were played at Sternberg Park in East Williamsburg Brooklyn. Out of eight teams . Second place went to Brooklyn Latin and first place to Flushing International.
For the spring season, the league moved to McCarren Park in Greenpoint Brooklyn. This time around ACORN fought hard and dug down deep and all of the off-season training and conditioning paid off as ACORN came back and took first place against Brooklyn Latin.

This was ACORN’s first year with the NYISL and an extremely triumphant finish for the spring season. The whole school community came together in celebration of the victory that will surely go down into ACORN history.

Why did you decide to play soccer for ACORN?
“Well, ever since the first day of high school in 2009, when I stepped my foot into ACORN Community high school I wanted to check out to see if they had a soccer team and they didn’t. Then in 2011, I found out that they finally had a soccer team and I of course joined the team. I play soccer for the school simply because I have a passion for playing soccer and I have always wanted to play soccer for a school team."

What is your favorite ACORN soccer memory?
“My favorite ACORN soccer moment was when we won the championship game. This is my favorite moment because it was the same night of the award ceremony at ACORN and when we walked in they gave us a shout-out. That was fun! We also had the whole school there cheering us on."

What have you learned from being a part of the team?
“Being part of the team, I have learned that teamwork and communication is the key to victory. Although we may not agree with each other sometimes, we get it together when it's time to work hard and win."

What are your goals for next school year?
“My goals for next year are to maintain and improve my GPA and to work hard to help the team in the future seasons."
