Brooklyn Man Facebook Lived Attack on Homeless Man, DA Says

Daquan King filmed himself laughing as he stepped over his bleeding victim, prosecutors said.

PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn man who filmed his brutal attack of a homeless man on Facebook Live will spend five years in prison, prosecutors announced.

Daquan King, 24, was sentenced after he confessed to throwing the homeless man down a flight of stairs, taking his money and trapping him in an elevator during the March 2017 attack, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

King began recording at about 9:35 p.m. on March 24, after he released the terrified man from the elevator inside the apartment building at 50 Lincoln Road, said prosecutors.

King filmed himself shoving his 58-year-old victim down 15 steps onto a landing below, then laughed as he stepped over the homeless man, who was bleeding from the head, prosecutors said.

Video shows King telling his neighbors, “go to the fifth floor,” and his viewers, “When I end this video, go and watch the video,” prosecutors said.

An NYPD detective who saw the Facebook Live video used it to track King to his home, where he was arrested the next day, said prosecutors.

King pleaded guilty to assault in Brooklyn Criminal Court in May, prosecutors said.

“This cruel and cowardly assault of a defenseless older man was sickening and shameful,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

“The defendant’s brazen behavior, combined with excellent work by a quick-thinking detective, led to his capture.”
