Cops Shoot, Kill Dog In Prospect Heights Apartment: Report
One report said the dog "charged the cops."
PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Police over the weekend shot and killed a pit bull in a Prospect Heights apartment complex, according to authorities and a local media report.
An NYPD spokesman provided few details about the incident to Patch on Monday but confirmed that at 4:20 a.m. Sunday morning, an officer shot at a dog inside of an apartment at 36 Plaza St. East., a 12-story, pre-war building near Grand Army Plaza that contains 84 apartments.
The New York Post, citing anonymous officials and neighbors, reported that the dog was a pit bull that "charged the cops" when they opened the door to the apartment. One of the officers fired five shots at the dog and killed it, the Post reported.

Police were at the apartment, the Post reports, because a cab driver had called them and said that the man inside didn't pay his cab fare.

The dog's name was Lola, according to a Facebook profile found by the Post. Its owner, Diego Azurdia, was said to have been very close with the dog.
The Facebook profile appears to have since been deleted or hidden completely.
The NYPD spokesman Patch spoke to could not confirm the breed of dog or whether it was dead. He said the report of the incident that he had was "not a very good filled-out report."
The incident comes a little over a month after cops shot and killed a pit bull mix in Bed-Stuy.
