Hammer & Drift was formed in the summer of 2011 when actor-singer-guitarist, Nathan Gurr, and violinist, Tami Jaton, met through the New York City poetry scene. They have been rehearsing and playing gigs in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side ever since. Hammer & Drift consists of guitar, violin, ukulele, and a rusty old chain from rural Ohio. They use the chain for percussion, giving their songs a ghostly, brooding and mountainous flavor, but not without a touch of whimsy. They've been described as antifolk, alternative, and blues-like.
