Norway’s finest Bluegrass Punk outfit!
Love songs for lumberjacks, bluegrass for punk rockers, serenades for sailors, drinking songs for desperate nights; love, insanity, murder, natural disaster and three-legged dogs are some of the themes covered in the Flea Market songbook, blending shadows from the Norwegian forest with darkness from the margins of America. Part punk-rock hoedown, part honky-tonk confessional, part big tent revival meeting, for the past two years The Fabulous Flea Market Band have steadily been winning new converts to their sweat-soaked, heartfelt version of rag and bone Americana. Huddled around a single mic in the tradition of an old-time stringband, the Fleas tear through all-original songs, taking turns on banjo, mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, guitar and the occasional trombone. The band’s all-original repertoir blends folk music from both sides of the Atlantic with a punk attitude, and an eye for the seedier sides of life, sharing common cause with bands such as the .357 String Band, The Felice Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, and songwriters like Tom Waits, Justin Townes Earl and Leonard Cohen.
Press: “What do you call four Norwegians gathered around a single mic? If one of them is holding a trombone it’s Flea Market Band, playing Norway’s finest bluegrass punk… a fantastic show. I hope to see them again.” -Nick Torres, Guitarnoise
