"Urban Foraging" in Prospect Park

Join Green Edge NYC and and medicinal plant expert Leda Meredith as they go "urban foraging" for wild edibles in Prospect Park.

Learn the special skill identifying edibles in the urban terrain. At the end of the foraging walk, participants will have a chance to sample the treats including wild edibles and conduct a Q&A with Leda.

According to greenedgenyc.org, "Urban foraging is a growing, family-friendly movement in which people harvest useful things from their urban environment. Our parks are filled with hand-picked eating opportunities, including all kinds of delicious fruits and weeds you would never think to eat. In the safe hands of professional gardener and botanist Leda Meredith, foragers are likely to find garlic mustard and violet blossoms in the spring, mulberries and bishop’s elder in the summer and oyster mushrooms and rose hips in autumn and other delicious wild edibles."

Pack comfortable walking shoes, water, pen, paper, and a digital camera to capture the plants that are safely identified to forage.
