Int’l HS Teacher Takes Kids Ice Skating for First Time
Math teacher Marcelle Good raised money on her own to take her students on a field trip.

Despite budget cutbacks, students from the International High School got the chance to try ice skating for the first time, thanks to their quick-thinking math teacher, reports the Daily News.
Teacher Marcelle Good raised over $800 from friends and family in just nine days, in order to take 60 of her students, mostly immigrants, to Central Park’s Lasker Rink, says the News.
"This is the first time I've ever done this,” Bashma Salim, a 14-year-old student from Yemen told the News. “I'm having so much fun."

The that serves about 420 immigrant students who arrived in the New York City four years ago or less. The school works with students learning English as a second language.
The school is also the subject of , "The New Kids: Big Dreams and Brave Journeys,” which chronicles the lives of students and faculty over the course of a year.
