8pm- Rollaway
Genre: dirty-southern-gothic-rock-country-folk
For fans of: The Band, Fleet Foxes, Allman Brothers, Neko Case, My Morning Jacket, The Grateful Dead

With music stylistically described as “floor-stomping blues”, “backwoods-choir elegance” (The Georgia Straight), and “dirty-southern-gothic-rock-country-folk” (Discorder Magazine), Rollaway is an important new voice on the indie roots scene. Their sophisticated musical blend of jazz, rock, folk, and rhythm & blues with lyrics steeped in mythology  is what you might imagine given the history of writer, band-leader, and producer Benton Roark, a native-Georgian who is equally at home in avant-garde and indie rock realms.  While stylistically aligned with classic acts such as The Band, The Allman Brothers, and The Grateful Dead, as well as recent ones such as My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes, and Neko Case, Rollaway is carving out a name for itself in the genre due the “poetry” and “complexity of Roark’s lyrics” (Maverick Magazine) and “topnotch” ensemble playing (The Georgia Straight). They have released three records: Rollaway, The Rollaway B-Sides EP, and most recently, The Return of the Lonesome Coyote Patchwork Pulpit, and Sundry Other Tales from the Rainbow’s End. Critically acclaimed, this most recent release has brought the band’s sound into a refined mix of ramshackle roots, Southern gothic poetry, and dark romanticism.

"...if he keeps making records as good as this one, Roark is welcome to stay here as long as he likes." - John Lucas of The Georgia Straight

"...the musicianship and lyrical quality is just too good to deny" - Nathan Pike of Discorder

"This is not an album you can put on as background music" -John Jobling of Maverick Magazine
