9pm- Ward White
Genre: My most recent album is an opera about cockroaches, so let's say "Other".
For fans of: David Bowie, Scott Walker, Elvis Costello, Todd Rundgren
Brooklyn based vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Ward White has released eight albums, including last years Bob, a crypto-entymological rock opera. His previous, Done With The Talking Cure, was named as one of the best records of 2011 in MAGNET Magazine's Year In Music issue. In addition to his solo work, Ward is one half of the chamber pop duo, McGinty & White (with former Psychedelic Furs keyboardist, Joe McGinty), whose debut album received accolades from The New Yorker and New York Press, naming it one of the five best albums of 2009.
iTunes Editorial review (excerpt), May 2013: "...Thomas Pynchon-esque in its storytelling sleight of hand... Between the singer's penthouse-elevator vocal range (with plush, cloud-hopping melodies to match), Joe McGinty's vintage-keyboard coloring, and White's own eloquent lead guitar lines, Bob should lighten the heart of anyone who feared that classic art-pop a la David Bowie, Scott Walker, Sparks, et al., was an endangered species."
" A superbly lyrical voice…" - The New Yorker
“...channeling Scott Walker’s scope with Paul McCartney’s playfulness...” – MAGNET Magazine

10pm- Yacouba Diabate
11pm- Gallows Bound
Genre: Bluegrass/folk/punk
For fans of: The Avett Brothers, Mischief Brew, Old Crow Medicine Show, Larry and His Flask, Leftover Crack
We are a group raised out of 4 chord punk rock in the mountains of Virginia, with a non traditional use of traditional instruments. Songs of adventure, heartache, too much whiskey, and rebellion flow as easy as the beer from your cup.
Mackrock Music Festival Magazine - "Fast and furious bluegrass outlaws from Winchester, VA. True to their Blue Ridge roots, they channel raw punk energy into melodies of love, loss, and liquor"
Folk Hive (folkhive.wordpress.com) - "Let's talk about some math, y'all. Whiskey & gin + stompgrass x an empty heart + swear words + non-literal graves / sexual innuendo = BADASS. Gallows Bound, we love your style of outlaw bluegrass. Let's marry? In a cemetery? With a cask of moonshine as the best man? That seems appropriate..."
Johnathan Bennett - Fredrick County Report - “Gallows Bound, a band that describes themselves as "outlaw punk bluegrass" and after giving their record "Empty Flask, Empty Heart" a listen, I'd agree that this is indeed an apt description. Keep an eye on this band and get this record folks. Soon enough, it will be cool to say you knew them when they were just an upstart in Winchester, VA.”
