CROWN HEIGHTS, NY — Gunfire erupted on a Crown Heights street Tuesday morning when a suspect randomly confronted a man, shot him and stole his phone, police said.

The incident unfolded around 11 a.m. in front of 1299 Lincoln Pl., just off Schenectady Avenue, officials said.

According to police, a 30-year-old man was standing outside when another man walked up and began arguing with him. The argument escalated and the suspect pulled out a gun, shooting the victim once in the stomach.

After the shooting, the robber stole the victim’s cellphone before fleeing northbound on Schenectady Avenue toward St. John’s Place on foot.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in stable condition.

Authorities on Wednesday released surveillance photos of the individual sought in the shooting. The images depict a man dressed in a red baseball cap, a black hoodie layered over a white shirt, black pants and multicolored sneakers.
