New York City Rock Camp: Registration Now Open!
Multi-genre music day camp; NYCRC is a safe space of radical creativity, self-expression, collaboration, and empowerment through music!
New York City Rock Camp is a multi-genre music camp open to kids of all skill levels, ages 10-17. It is a volunteer-powered week of music, creativity, and making noise--a safe space of radical self-expression, collaboration, and performance, where young people are empowered to trust themselves, their voices, and each other.
NYCRC will take place August 3-7 at Brooklyn High School of the Arts, with the camper showcase and raffle held at The Knitting Factory on Sunday August 9.
Founded on the model of Girls Rock! Portland and Southern Girls Rock n’ Roll Camp, is a co-ed program based on the core values of feminism and empowerment. Each morning, campers engage in conversations and activities about a different theme such as Gender Performance in Music, Race and the History of Rock n’ Roll, or Music and Revolution. These conversations permeate the day as campers move through instrument instruction, workshops like songwriting and recording, and band practice.

After forming a band, campers collaborate daily with their group, guided by two volunteer “band managers,” to compose an original song by Friday. On Sunday, campers perform their songs onstage at the Knitting Factory.
Registration is now open for NYCRC 2015. Tuition is $400, with need-based scholarships available to all families.
