Photographer Wendy Ewald and writer Luc Sante talk about the tradition of vernacular photography. 5/1

How does the democratic nature of photography challenge our notions of "high art" and the role of the individual artist?

On May 1 at 2pm, the photographer Wendy Ewald and writer Luc Sante will talk about the tradition of vernacular photography - from old postcards to family snapshots - and Ewald's long history of working with communities to invite them to imagine themselves in pictures. Together they consider the following question: How does the democratic nature of photography, especially in the days of digital cameras and smartphones, challenge our notions of "high art" and the role of the individual artist? Ewald's work is included in the exhibition This Place, on view through June 5, 2016.

The event will be held in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor and is FREE with Museum admission, but keep in mind that seating is first-come, first-served basis.

You may also watch this even on Livestream.
