Gay marriages are commonplace
These heady, liberal days
When closets seem to be emptying out
In convention-seeking ways.
Who'll be the bride and who the groom
Are questions, and couples face it,
And letting each be simply spouse
Is how they often ace it.
The ceremonies fill the pages
Of the Sunday Times
With more space than the News and Post
Devote to violent crimes.
And yet last month to tell the truth
I couldn't stop from shedding
Tears at the union of Bill and Jim--
I cry at each starter wedding.
