Man With BB Gun On Crown Heights Roof Triggers Panic, Police Say
An armed man on a rooftop near 19 Rogers Ave. in Crown Heights has been arrested, police confirmed. His weapon turned out to be a BB gun.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A man with what turned out to be a BB gun on a Crown Heights roof brought police rushing toward Rogers Avenue, police said.
They took him into custody Tuesday morning at about 11:20 a.m., ending a tense situation for the area near Rogers Avenue and Dean Street, authorities said.

NYPD scrambled to the block after receiving an 11 a.m. call about a man dressed in all black with a gun on a rooftop. They quickly arrested a man, 26, who surrendered without violence.

"The male on the roof was safely taken into custody and was in possession of a Airsoft rifle," NYPD's Specials Ops on Twitter.

Airsoft guns shoot BBs or pellets and can look identical to actual firearms. They often trigger reports that draw large numbers of police, as NYPD emergency teams did Tuesday in Crown Heights.

Video on the Citizen app shows police in tactical gear blocking a street in the neighborhood.
People also reported hearing police helicopters, according to a Twitter post.

At least one other helicopter was NBC's Chopper 4, which captured footage of police officers taking the man into custody on the rooftop.
Preliminary information states the incident centered around 19 Rogers Ave., which houses Fort Greene Council Grant Square neighborhood center.
Police were still questioning the man as of Tuesday afternoon and had no inkling yet of his motivation, if any, authorities said. No charges had been filed either.
