CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A new coronavirus test site in Crown Heights promises to bring results in 24 hours.

The new "COVID Express" site is one of nine new rapid coronavirus testing locations the city added to its health clinics across the city this week, according to Council Member Mark Levine, who chairs the council's health committee.

The Crown Heights site can be found at 1218 Prospect Pl. It is one of two in Brooklyn, the second of which can be found in Fort Greene.

At the rapid sites, results are available within 24 hours, meaning most patients will receive their test results on the same day as their visit, according to the city.

Testing is free, and by appointment only, with signups available online.

The rapid testing is a major development in New York City's coronavirus testing network, which has at times had New Yorkers waiting two weeks for their test results.

The delay in coronavirus test results — a major hurdle in the city's efforts to trace and contain the virus — have been in part attributed to backlogs at major labs dealing with an influx of tests from across the country, where cases are spiking.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said in August that the backlogs for at least some of the sites were on their way to being fixed, bringing wait times at non-rapid results locations to four days or so.
