Roaches And Rats Force Washington Ave Banh Mi Place To Close

Prospect Height's Banh Mi Place was shut down by health inspectors Thursday, city records show.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN -- Health inspectors shut down a Vietnamese sandwich shop after they found evidence of rats and roaches inside it on Valentine's Day, city records show.

Banh Mi Place, a sandwich and bubble tea shop on Washington Avenue near St. Johns Place, racked up 42 violation points during a surprise inspection from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Thursday, city records show.

Inspectors found live roaches in the restaurant, evidence of rats, cold foods held above regulated temperatures and workers reusing singe-service items, Health Department records show.

This is not the first time Banh Mi Place has been cited for vermin in the restaurant; inspectors also found evidence of rats and mice inside the eatery in June 2017, according to city records.

Patch was unable to reach owners for comment.
