Take 10 Minutes For Brooklyn's Slice Of $73B Census Pie: Video
"This is literally 10 minutes of your life, less than 10 questions to determine the next 10 years," said state Sen. Zellnor Myrie.

PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Getting Brooklyn a fair slice of a $73 billion pie depends on how many people fill out their U.S. Census forms, a new video argues.
"That is 'billion' with a 'B,'" said state Sen. Zellnor Myrie in the video.

The video released by Myrie and Indivisible Nation BK is the latest prong of a push to encourage Brooklyn residents to fill out their census forms.

Brooklyn had the lowest ensus returns of a community its size during the 2010 census, data shows. Myrie, who represents Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, among other Brooklyn neighborhoods, also noted in the video that 80 percent of the borough is hard to count.
Undercounting costs local neighborhoods valuable money for housing, infrastructure and schools, he said.

"If you have 100 kids in the neighborhood but the census only counts 10 kids, then we're only getting funding for 10 of those kids' schools," he said in the video.
Myrie pointed out census answers aren't shared with police or immigration. They only go toward a snapshot of Brooklyn that helps determines its share of $73 billion in funding going to New York state, he said.

Census forms arrive in the mail starting March 15.
