Zadie Smith Reads From Her Latest Novel on Oct. 20 at Medgar Evers College

The novel is the fifth from the award-winning and internationally known author.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Acclaimed novelist Zadie Smith will be reading from her latest novel, "Swing Time," and taking audience questions at a free event Thursday in Crown Heights.

The Oct. 20 event will start at 7 p.m. at Medgar Evers College's Founders Auditorium, located at 1650 Bedford Ave.

College spokeswoman Felicia Lee said that while there is no need to RSVP for the event, the doors will be closed promptly at 7 p.m., so she recommends those attending to get there early, if possible.

"Two brown girls dream of being dancers — but only one, Tracey, has talent," writes publisher Penguin Random House of the new novel. "The other has ideas: about rhythm and time, about black bodies and black music, what constitutes a tribe, or makes a person truly free. It’s a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early twenties, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either."

The London-born Smith has been an internationally known writer since the publication of her first novel, "White Teeth," in 2000. "Swing Time" is her fifth book. She also writes for The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books, and teaches creative writing at New York University.
