Zuni Mountain Boys + Caroline Reese & the Drifting Fifth + Cropdust + Bourbon Express @ The Way Station

Live Music: June 25, 2015, 8pm-12am, The Way Station, 683 Washington Ave, BK, http://waystationbk.blogspot.com/ $5 suggested donation

8pm- Zuni Mountain Boys
The Zuni Mountain Boys are an Americana duo based out of Brooklyn, NY. Connor McGinnis and Matt Campbell formed the group in early 2014. They recorded their first EP in East Nashville in late May 2014 over two days, and released it via bandcamp in August 2014. The five song EP consists predominantly of two acoustic guitars, and two part harmonies with Connor singing the leads, and Matt accompanying. Dobro and piano are the only other accents on the recording, leaving the sound spare, with little more than is necessary to deliver the song. The lyrics hesitate to dip into the abstract, and instead paint the sound with ordinary images that allow the listener to arrive at something larger on their own.

9pm- Caroline Reese & the Drifting Fifth
Genre: Americana, alt-folk-rock
For fans of: Brandi Carlile, Fleetwood Mac, Kathleen Edwards

Caroline Reese & the Drifting Fifth is an Americana band based out of Reading, PA. Reese’s acoustic guitar, strong songwriting, and country-leaning lead vocals combined with electric guitarist Mark Watter’s indie-rock hooks makes for a fresh take on their familiar genre. Since forming the band in 2013, CRD5 has toured extensively around the east coast, including an appearance on Nashville’s Music City Roots show. Reese and her band have released three original albums to date and opened for a variety of notable songwriters such as Ben Folds, Chris Stapleton (Grammy-nominated SteelDrivers), and Riders in the Sky. Reese’s song “Pennsylvania, Again” has been featured in American Songwriter, and the band was a top five finalist in PHL Live’s competition to name the best country/folk band in Philadelphia. They are also Y102’s local artist of the year.

“As a country-folk-rock group, Caroline and her boys cover a lot of genre turf without missing a beat. CR+D5...blends the crystalline grit of Caroline’s voice with some powerhouse electric guitar, giving us a sort of feminine rock that we haven’t heard much of since Stevie Nicks.” -Emmy Fortunato, Verge Magazine

“With it’s heartfelt display of edgy folk and Americana, “The Electric Year” clearly illustrates why Caroline Reese & the Drifting Fifth are garnering attention...” -Jim Price, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine
