Drunk Drivers Arrested After East End Crashes: Police

BREAKING: Southampton Town Police say they arrested two people after separate crashes Wednesday night.

Two people were arrested on DWI charges following two separate crashes on the East End Wednesday night, Southampton Town Police said.

The first crash occurred on Flanders Road in Flanders at about 9:12 p.m. Police said 21-year-old Erika J. Ochoa, of Riverhead, struck an occupied vehicle on the side of the road.

Ochoa and the occupant of the parked vehicle were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

An investigation revealed that Ochoa had been "operating her vehicle in an intoxicated condition," police said. She was issued released from the hospital on an appearance ticket and will appear in court at a later date.

The second crash occurred on Montauk Highway in Speonk at about 10:51 p.m. Police said 48-year-old Luis A. Diaz, of Shirley, "was involved in a reportable motor vehicle accident and subsequent investigation revealed he was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition, his license was revoked and the vehicle did not have an interlock device."

There were no injuries and the drivers of the two vehicles were the only occupants, police said.

Diaz was arrested at the scene. He is charged with aggravated DWI, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, circumvent an interlock device and open alcohol contained in a motor vehicle. The first two charges are felonies.

Diaz was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment Thursday morning.
