Honored by the Riverhead-based Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, she was celebrated for keeping Long Island's stories accessible while joining other historians and preservationists from across the Island in receiving the inaugural LIONS Award.

2. Riverhead sets Sept. 1 to consider zoning dispute for revised pipeline plan (newsday.com) — Riverhead officials have set a Sept. 1 Monroe Balancing Test hearing to decide whether the Suffolk County Water Authority's revised North Fork pipeline route must follow town zoning rules. The 7.5-mile water line would run largely through Riverhead, raising concerns over construction impacts, permitting, and whether the project benefits town residents who aren't SCWA customers. Several related public hearings are also scheduled nearby.

3. Suffolk DA: Four-Time Felony DWI Offender Detained by ICE After Allegedly Driving Despite Court Order (town.news) — Detective investigators stopped a driver near Main Street in Riverhead on August 17, leading to his detention by federal immigration authorities, according to the Suffolk DA. Prosecutors say the man was recently convicted of his fourth felony DWI and was under a court order not to drive, and now faces a new unlicensed operation charge while officials seek his return for sentencing.

4. 'No one's asking you to stop ICE': Latino advocates urge Riverhead to discuss OLA's public safety law (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead residents and Latino advocates are urging the Town Board to publicly discuss OLA's proposed public safety and accountability law governing how local police interact with federal immigration enforcement.
