Hastings Board of Ed Seeks Restoration of School Funds

$4.2 million is being withheld by the state.

Hastings-on-Hudson education officials are continuing their efforts to urge parents to write to state officials to have $4.2 million in funding restored to the district’s budget.

Below is the text from an email from the Board of Education to parents with a link to write to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and others:

Please take a moment to help us advocate for full State funding for our district. Over the past six years, through the Gap Elimination Act, the State has withheld $4.2 million of its approved funding from our district and $9 billion state-wide. Taxpayers need to ask again for an end to the GEA and for the State to fulfill its role in funding public education.

State revenues are up and our legislators have indicated that there is willingness among our officials on both sides of the aisle to make the change. The Hastings PTSA sent out a similar appeal before the winter break; this is another opportunity to make a difference.
