Irvington High School Deals with Bomb Threat

Irvington High School is the latest Westchester County school to have to evacuate students and faculty following a bomb threat.

The school was emptied Thursday afternoon, and after-school activities canceled, after a threatening message was discovered scrawled in a bathroom stall. Classes had already been dismissed.

Westchester County police bomb squad personnel, in addition to the department’s K-9 unit, and Irvington police were called to the scene, reports News 12 Westchester, but no devices were discovered.

Irvington School Superintendent Kristopher Harrison wrote a message to parents Thursday evening, explaining the incident and that an investigation has been launched to discover who made the threat, according to The Journal News. Harrison did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Friday.

In recent months, high schools in Rye and Scarsdale have had to stop classes and/or activities to clear out buildings following bomb threats, with Rye being plagued by such occurances on multiple occassions.

A student was arrested recently and charged with a felony in connection with one of the Rye threats. The Federal Bureau of Investigation also was called upon for assistance in the Rye investigations.

“The Police have stated that this continues to be an active and ongoing investigation, and that they expect to make additional arrests,” Rye School Superintendent Dr. Frank Alvarez said in a statement to parents.
