Woman Accused Of Killing 2 Greenburgh Residents In Car Accident Pleads Guilty
The defendant had not only been drinking but had Valium in her system.

GREENBURGH, NY — The White Plains woman accused of killing an elderly Greenburgh couple in a car accident pleaded guilty Tuesday. Michelle Bonet, 43, of Stonewall Circle in White Plains, was intoxicated at the time of the accident which occurred Oct. 28, 2016, around 2:15 p.m., and resulted in the deaths of Henrietta and Carmelo Sbezzi.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Bonet was driving on West Hartsdale Road in Greenburgh in a Chrysler minivan.
She had been seen crossing over the double yellow line multiple times and nearly collided head-on with a car driven by a 17-year-old student coming from Maria Regina High School.

Moments later, Bonet, who was driving over the speed limit, crossed the double yellow line on West Hartsdale Avenue and collided head-on with a Lexus sedan driven by Carmelo Sbezzi, 82. His wife, Henrietta Sbezzi, 81, was in the front passenger’s seat.

Police said the force of the impact pushed the victims’ car off the road. The two vehicles came to rest with the front of each nearly touching, and Bonet’s car almost entirely in the opposite lane of traffic.
The Sbezzis had to be extricated from their vehicle. Bonet, who was alone in the car, was found slumped over unconscious.
They were all taken to Westchester Medical Center, where the Sbezzis died.
Police took two separate blood samples from Bonet at different times at the hospital. Tests revealed blood-alcohol contents of 0.29 and 0.25. The test also found diazepam, or Valium, in her system.
Media reports said Bonet had spent four hours drinking that Friday morning after having dropped her children off at school.
Bonet pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- Three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, felonies
- Two counts of second-degree manslaughter, felonies
- Aggravated driving while intoxicate per se, a misdemeanor
- Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor
- Driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs or of alcohol and any drug or drugs, a misdemeanor
Bonet’s bail has been continued. She faces a minimum of one to three to a maximum of eight and one-third to 25 years in state prison.
Bonet will be sentenced Aug. 1.
