Drug dispute brewing for weeks led to fatal shooting on Hague Street, Rochester police say (13wham.com) — Rochester police say a weeks-long drug dispute led to the Aug. 30 shooting death of 64-year-old Ronald Leonard Jr. on Hague Street, with suspect Troy Dukes now charged with murder and weapons counts. Investigators describe tracking him through surveillance video and drug-house searches that turned up fentanyl, cocaine, and cash, while Dukes remains held without bail ahead of another court appearance Monday.
   

2. URochester, SEIU union workers agree to second short-term contract extension (whec.com) — University of Rochester hospital and campus workers in Rochester have agreed to a second short-term extension of their labor contract, now running through late on October 3 while negotiations continue. Represented by 1199SEIU and SEIU Local 200United, about 2,000 Strong Memorial and River Campus employees are pressing for better wages, benefits, and union rights that could shape working conditions and care for local patients.
   

3. Deadline for appeal approaches in Rochester First Amendment suit (13wham.com) — A Rochester man has won a preliminary injunction after a federal judge found his sharply worded email to the former ICE director was likely protected by the First Amendment, blocking the government from acting on a prior warning notice. Officials can still file an emergency appeal by Sept. 29, so Rochester residents watching free-speech issues may see this case move quickly in the coming days.
   

4. The Daily Record, RBJ announce 2026 Attorneys of the Year (nydailyrecord.com) — Rochester-area readers can look ahead to the 2026 Attorneys of the Year celebration coming to the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on November 16, honoring 38 standout legal professionals. 5. Girl Scouts of WNY celebrates female entrepreneurship at MakeHER Fair (rbj.net) — Girl Scouts of Western New York will host the MakeHER Fair on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Mall at Greece Ridge in Rochester, spotlighting girl entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses.
