Business Q&A: Gingerbread and Giggles

Local business offers sweet parties for both kids and adults.

The owners of Gingerbread and Giggles want to make baking fun again. With their wide array of classes, birthday party options and community events, the local business values the art of fun, family-oriented baking. Operating out of on Hempstead Avenue, Gingerbread and Giggles also offers parties for adults. The company will hold events in customers homes, if so desired. Here, owner Barbara Butensky describes the many features of her family baking business.

What makes Gingerbread and Giggles unique?

It’s one of the few opportunities for children to create an edible treat that is only limited by their imagination.

What are some of your most popular classes?

Generally, we do classes over the school breaks. We change the theme depending on the time of year. Igloos were the most popular for the winter break. Summer cottages, (which is) kind of a flower garden idea, (are the most popular) for spring.

What are your sweets and wine parties like?

They came out as an opportunity for the moms to take part in the decorating parties. (Moms) would often leave with their children from the family events and say, ‘That’s great, can I come and do it myself with some wine?' So, we created the sweets and wine parties. We can bring a party to your house or to one of our locations that we rent. You’re able to just be with your girlfriends. It includes wine, a cheese platter and a chocolate fountain.

What can customers find on your website?

They can find information about our services for seasonal events, the classes, and sweets and wine (parties). We (also) have fun games where kids can (build) virtual gingerbread houses or take quizzes. There is a fun element for you to go back to on an ongoing basis.

Do you have any Mother’s Day events planned?

We have an event that is being held on the friday before Mother’s Day (May 11). It’s a combination of sugar cookies and chocolate pops. We’ve gotten into offering some chocolate products. The kids also make a craft, which is a large Mother’s Day card.
