Flags are everywhere. Whether it’s at a government building, school or new business, one can’t go very far without spotting one. Arlene Kirch has made flags her business. Founded by her late husband John in 1974, serves the flag needs of customers all over Long Island. Their 3,000 square-foot showroom is located on Sunrise Highway. Here, Kirch details the ins and outs of her banner business.
What kind of flags do you sell?
Besides various sizes of U.S. flags, we also sell POW/MIA flags, military flags, international flags and decorative flags for the various seasons and holidays. We do carry message flags — for example Grand Opening, Open, Welcome, Sale and others. Various types of buntings are also available.

Are there any flags that are more popular than others?
U.S. and military flags are probably the most popular. We have very patriotic customers and deal with various organizations and veterans groups. It is very gratifying to see how patriotic some of the very young children can be.

Generally, what is the price range for the flags?
Naturally, pricing depends on the type of flag and material. To give a very general answer, the range can be anywhere from $12 to a few hundred dollars. We (also) carry stick flags, which (cost) less than $12.
What other services do you offer?
We sell and install (in–ground) flagpoles, repair and paint commercial flagpoles, and make custom flags and banners. We have had the honor of making various flags and banners for police departments, fire departments, schools, churches and many businesses.
What do you like about operating in Rockville Centre?
This is such a great town. The people are just wonderful. We have people coming from all different towns and it is such a pleasure to talk and joke with them. Rockville Centre is such a bustling town that houses so many various types of businesses and restaurants that being located directly on Sunrise Highway is such an added benefit. It gives the visibility needed and the ease of locating us.
