Business Q&A: Pioneer Hair Designs
One of RVC's oldest businesses offers professional cuts and shaves at low prices.

A staple in the village of Rockville Centre for more than 30 years, Pioneer Hair Designs on North Park Avenue provides the two things that customers crave most: excellent service and low prices. This week, we spoke with owner Jose Dominguez about the cuts and shaves that keep his customers coming back.
What makes Rockville Centre a good location for your shop?
This is my hometown. I’ve lived here for 43 years and have owned the hair shop for 30 years. I love it. I’ve always been very involved in the community and it’s a community where people really support local businesses. That’s the excellent thing about this town.

Tell us about the services you offer.
We do regular haircuts and I do my own classic shaves. We don’t just offer men’s haircuts — I also have a hairdresser who does women’s cuts. We cut children’s hair as well.

Do you offer any special promotions for customers?
This is one of the least expensive barber shops on Long Island, so all of our prices are very low. But I do offer customers a free cup of coffee with their haircut so that they can enjoy it while they are in the chair, and we have free donuts and lollipops for the kids. Every two years we do a raffle, which customers can enter to win a free 42-inch television.
How would you describe your staff?
I have three people working with me and the level of service is excellent. We provide our customers with the best customer service possible. That is why they keep coming back.
What do you hope people get out of their experience at Pioneer Barber Shop?
We’re all very friendly here. We’re like a big family. This is a family-oriented place and that is what we want customers to experience when they come in for a haircut or a shave.
