Rockville Centre Pols Hold Public Meeting Against Hochul Housing Plan
The March 7 meeting is in opposition to the governor's high-density housing proposal.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — A proposal by Gov. Hochul would remove local zoning control for housing.
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin is one of the critics of the plan.
"We don't want Hochul control, we want local control of all new zoning," Clavin told CBS2.

As part of the governor's budget, all municipalities would increase housing by 3% every three years.
The housing would be focused near mass transit, and according to the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce, that would mean more than 500 new units within 1/2-mile radius of the Long Island Rail Road station.
One of the village's concerns they'll address: How can infrastructure, including sewers and roads, handle 504 new homes?
The Nassau County Legislature created a petition that states the "high-density housing plan doesn't work for Long Island."
Along with attending the meeting on Tuesday at the RVC Recreation Center, the public can also get involved in a Change.org petition organized by the Town of Hempstead.
