Blind Brook Incumbent Glen Schuster Runs for Another Term

Glen Schuster seeks re-election to the Blind Brook Board of Education in two weeks.

"Blind Brook, like other Westchester districts, is fighting to maintain excellence in its schools," said Blind Brook School Board Vice President Glen Schuster. "I will continue to lead and empower our administration, faculty and staff at the lowest possible cost to move the district forward."

Th incumbent has lived in Rye Brook for 10 years with his wife Julie and two children: 12 year-old Seth and 7 year-old Justin. He is proud to run on his record.

"During my first term, the Board of Education has presented the community with essentially no tax increases for three years," said Schuster. "At the same time, we have preserved the core education program for 2011-2012. Unlike our surrounding districts we have averted layoffs of classroom teachers."

Schuster credits district leaders as well as the hard work of the trustees for the lean budgets. He also points to open meetings and transparency in board functions as imperative to the community, especially in negotiating the upcoming teachers' contract wich expires in June.

"I first envisioned and helped to implement the 2011 Community Budget Forum so we might get community involvement," said Schuster. "Board members need good ideas with which they can go back to the bargaining table with our attorneys to come to a fair, balanced agreement with our teachers union."

In one term, Schuster has gained valuable perspective on the responsibilties of a board member.

"I have the experience and professional knowledge to continue to move the District forward," said Schuster. "Among what I feel are my accomplishments, I have strictly advocated for open meetings and increased transparency in all aspects of what we do."

Though busy with the responsibilties of the board and his firm , Schuster coached baseball through the sixth grade year on his now seventh-grade son Seth and still finds time for the sport. "This year I am working with a second grade “co-ed” team from Rye Brook Rec," said Schuster. "It is a lot of fun to see younger children learn the game and build their skills."
