Blind Brook-Rye School Superintendent William Stark Resigns

Stark's contract was set to expire in 2017.

Two years into his current contract, Blind Brook-Rye School Superintendent William Stark resigned Monday, effective immediately.

The circumstances of his resignation have not been disclosed, but Board of Education President Jeff Diamond said in a letter to parents and staff that the decision was mutual.

“The Board of Education of Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District and the Superintendent of Schools, William J. Stark, have agreed that Mr. Stark will be resigning his employment with the District effective March 16, 2015,” the statement reads. “The school board believes that Mr. Stark has many fine qualities that will serve him well in future endeavors, and wishes him success in the future.”

“Unfortunately, the Board of Education cannot comment on personnel matters,” Diamond told Patch. “While almost all of the Board’s work can be, and is, discussed publicly, this is one of the few matters that we must keep confidential.”

Assistant Superintendent Jonathan Ross has been named interim superintendent, and Diamond said a decision on the board’s next steps has not yet been finalized.

“As for the question of a search, it is my expectation that the Board will conduct a superintendent search, but there still need to be discussions on how the Board and community would like to proceed,” Diamond told Patch.

Below is the full letter from Diamond including the joint statement:

On behalf of the Board of Education, I am writing to inform you of a change of leadership in our district. The Board and Superintendent Stark have issued the following joint statement:

The Board of Education of Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District and the Superintendent of Schools, William J. Stark, have agreed that Mr. Stark will be resigning his employment with the District effective March 16, 2015.

At a Special Meeting of the Board of Education last night, the Board appointed Assistant Superintendent Jonathan Ross to the position of Interim Superintendent. Dr. Ross has been employed by the Blind Brook School District for 14 years, and the Board is confident in his ability to lead the district during this time of transition.

The dedication and professionalism of every employee in the district allows Blind Brook to offer a quality education to its students year-in and year-out. The Board of Education knows that our students and entire school community continue to be in good hands during this time of change in leadership.
