News From the Airport
I represent the Village of Rye Brook Airport Council but the views expressed are my own.
They're at it again!! Has anyone noticed less traffic, smaller aircraft, less congestion in the terminal, perhaps even parking spaces available? This all might end soon with airport management allowing Southwest Airlines to bring in a 737 jet again.
More air pollution, more passengers per emplaning and deplaning at gates. More income for the airport, but less enjoyment for the neighborhood and no seats in the terminal.
The manager explained that the airport rules and regulations which prohibit aircraft weighing more than 120,000 tons without special permission can be forgiven if the airline notifies, when they bid for gate slots at the auction every three months, that they will bring in the 737 and want permission. In other words, no 737 permitted, no gates won at auction. Southwest expects to win the auctions probably for slots currently occupied by Air Tran an airline which Southwest has acquired.

White Plains is a regional airport. It was never meant to be a growing commercial facility. Stewart is gradually assuming this position and there is always LaGuardia or Kennedy.
I enjoy using our airport which is convenient, well managed, clean and easily accessible on many occasions. Our tax money, contrary to some declarations, is going to support this airport and benefit more and more commercial airlines. The corporations attracted to the private hangars, corporate headquarters located in our neighborhoods are the reason for HPN benefits from federal and state grants, not commercial jets which defy our voluntary flight times and pollute our neighborhoods.
