Celebration of President's Day Weekend and Black History Month:
Teachers are invited to an Open House at the Jay Heritage Center to see a performance of "Striving For Freedom" our acclaimed interactive theatre production. This unique performance, geared towards inclusion in a middle school curriculum, examines slavery and manumission in New York at the boyhood home of one of our nation's earliest abolitionists, John Jay. The Rye site is a place where slaves are known to have worked and where they were also emancipated based on original Jay family drawings and archival records. It is one of 13 sites on Westchester County's African American Heritage Trail.
