Overnight Search Finds Missing Woman In Marshlands Conservancy: Rye PD

After a 9-hour search, a police drone pilot located the woman near the shoreline of the Long Island Sound and guided her back to safety.

RYE, NY — A missing woman was found safe after a 9-hour-long, dramatic, overnight search on Thursday.

City of Rye police said they were called to assist the Westchester County Police Department in locating a missing person in the Marshlands Conservancy at 220 Boston Post Road at about 12:30 a.m.

The woman had been earlier reported missing by family who were concerned for her safety. The family said they last saw the missing woman hours earlier, around 10 p.m.

Police searched the park and surrounding area for more than nine hours. The Westchester County Police Aviation Unit, the City of Rye Police Marine Unit, and the City of Rye Police Department drone were involved in the search.

The missing woman was eventually located around 9:30 a.m. by the City of Rye Police Department's drone in a remote area by the Long Island shoreline. She appeared to be un-injured and in good health, according to officials.

The sergeant operating the drone, along with a Westchester County police officer, were able to guide ground units to the missing woman who was escorted back to waiting and very relieved family members.

"The City of Rye police would like to extend thanks to all responders who assisted with the search and provided the individual and their family with a positive outcome to this incident," police said in a statement released on Thursday.
