Public Hearing Dec. 3 on Proposed Rye Spending Plan
The proposed city budget for 2015 is $50.77 million.

The Rye City Council will hold a public hearing Wednesday in City Hall on the proposed 2015 municipal budget, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
For 2015, city officials are proposing to spend $50.77 million, which would require a tax increase of about 3.14 percent, according to City Manager Frank Culross.
“No one likes taxes. Even fewer like property taxes as there is no clear relationship with the service rendered or with the ability of the property owner to pay,” Culross wrote in a budget message to the Council. “However, because it ’feels good’ to artificially constrain the property tax levy, it doesn’t make it prudent or sustainable. The City of Rye has budgeted responsibly over time. Our share of the property tax pie has steadily declined.”
