Rye’sAbove Butterfly Sculptures Escape The Chrysalis And Take Flight
The butterfly art will once again add inspiration to the local landscape, attract visitors downtown and raise funds for education on Aug 11.
RYE, NY — The Rotary Club of Rye and The Rye Arts Center have announced the unveiling of this year's "Rye'sAbove" butterfly sculptures will take place on August 11, at 11 a.m., on the Village Green in Rye.
Originally inspired by a similar program in Colorado, "Rye'sAbove" brings together local artists, residents and the business community to raise funds for local educational programs and create a grand-scale conversation piece throughout the community.

Artists submitted proposals for butterfly designs and winners were chosen by a special panel from The Rye Arts Center. A total number of 30 butterflies have been decorated and they range in size from small (the size of a dinner plate) to large at 48" x 30". Over 24 artists from around the area and across the U.S. received their butterflies in June and have since transformed them into beautiful works of art.
“We are looking forward to unveiling these incredible butterfly sculptures that will adorn Rye throughout the summer,” said Michele Thomas, President of the Rye Rotary.

The unveiling will include 5 of the largest butterflies and 12 of the medium ones which will be on display on the Village Green until the end of September, while the smaller sculptures will be on display at businesses along Purchase St. and the surrounding area. Major corporate sponsors are invited to "host a butterfly" at their businesses during the summer.
The Rye'sAbove program will have an auction on September 29, where the butterflies will be available for bidding at the Wainwright House overlooking the Long Island Sound.
In addition to the mission of beautifying and uplifting the community, proceeds from the "Rye'sAbove" butterfly project will go to both The Rye Rotary and the Rye Arts Center and will be used for each organization's scholarship and educational programs.
“We are very excited to be able to once again showcase the work of such talented artists and help decorate the Village Green," Rye Arts Center Director Adam Levi said. "Rye residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy these unique works of art throughout the summer months. The Rye’sAbove project brings artistic expression and sheer beauty to our community."
