Remembered for her work with the Little Garden Club of Rye, Rye Arts Center, Rye Historical Society, and other local groups, she also cherished the Rye Free Reading Room, where memorial gifts are encouraged. A celebration of her life is planned for late fall or early winter.

The list highlights top returning talent across the Lower Hudson Valley, with final selections to be announced online August 31 before games kick off next week.

Port Chester Swimmer to Attempt English Channel Crossing for Long Island Sound (talkofthesound.com) — A Port Chester swimmer is training at sunrise off Oakland Beach in Rye as he prepares to cross the English Channel this October to spotlight clean water in Long Island Sound. His 21-mile effort will benefit Save the Sound and draw attention to ongoing regional water-quality concerns that affect local beaches and boaters.
   

5. Lenox Resident Virginia Henry Vuolo Dies at Age 86 (myrye.com) — A former Rye resident and Rye High School alumna from the class of 1958 has died at age 86, leaving many family members and friends mourning her loss. Raised in Rye before raising her own family in Westchester and later moving to Massachusetts, she will be remembered for her deep Catholic faith, community involvement, and love of animals.
