Rye Superintendent Resigns, Interim Superintendent Appointed

RYE, NY — The Rye City School District will be looking for a new superintendent.
Superintendent Frank Alvarez announced his resignation at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

In a statement, he said he was proud of the accomplishments the district made over the four years he was in charge.
“The support of the Board of Education, faculty, staff and parents enabled several news initiatives to take root and become important components of a productive school environment for all our students,” Alvarez said.

“It has been a privilege to serve the Rye community,” he said.
Board President Katy Keohane Glassberg thanked Alvarez for his service and then announced the appointment of Dr. Brian Monahan as interim superintendent effective August 1.
Monahah, according to his LinkedIn profile, was superintendent of the North Rockland Central School District from August 1995 to August 2009.
He has sinced served as interim superintendent for the Mahopac, Garrison and Hendrick Hudson districts.
“We are confident Dr. Monahan will very capably run the district while the board proceeds with a search process that will be thoughtfully planned, provide opportunities for input from all school community stakeholders and be conducted with professional search consultants,” Glassberg said.
She said additional details on the search procedure will be provided at a later date.
